ERSA, Elemental Residual Salt Analysis.

ERSA involves extracting residual salts or water from cores and measuring the ion content. The data can be used to characterise the chemistry of irreducible and aquifer water brought to the surface in core samples.

If porosity and Sw are known then ERSA data can also be used to provide estimates of salinity and Rw.

ERSA data provide information on:

• The spatial distribution of chemistry and Rw variance within reservoirs.

• Chemistry and Rw data from hydrocarbon saturated strata or tight aquifer intervals from which conventional water samples cannot be obtained.
